!UPDATE! Sources say the new GTO is a 2009 model and will be available in late 2008. Keep glued to the website for the latest info!
Well the retro Camaro, & Charger, was announced so the Pontiac Firebird couldn’t be far behind. I am a 1970-1972 Firebird builder/owner, the later years 76-78 (especially 1977 Smokey and the bandit year) is my least fav. Unfortunately that is what Pontiac is choosing to follow (bad choice I think).

The bird decal was bad-ass in my opinion, but then again, that’s a memory I have of my uncle’s Firebird from my youth.
Can’t agree more. I had hoped upon announcement that they would target the earlier year models with the agressive muscle car lines. Instead they have chosen to target the mullet wearing rebel flag blazing crowed to which I cannot relate.
The later cars are what people remember more, so it’s no wonder GM is targeting that audience. I am personally a big fan of the ’79-’81 style cars; the ’77-’78s are the ugliest ones, in my opinion. In any case, putting a 2nd generation front end treatment on what is clearly a 1st generation-inspired body looks awkward.
The new Pontiac will be a GTO anyway, undoubtedly, which is depressing: the Firebird was far more of an icon that kept the performance image of Pontiac alive, long after the GTO died a horrible death.
i say, its great. as for brian b.’s n johnathan p’s comment. they can go to hell. the 77-81 birds are the ones every one remembers. i own a 79 n any time i take the car out i get comments left n right about the car. people sayin wow, those were some great car, i had a black one!, and the classic damn! i should of never let mine go. needless to say im glad the bandit era t/a is back, and ready to kick ass. not to mention the formula concept is incredible looking too.
1977-1978 WERE THE BEST LOOKING FIREBIRDS EVER!!THEY ARE LONG MISSED AND NOT FORGOTTEN, JUST LOOK AT HOW MANY SOLD IN THOSE 2 YEARS MORE THAN 1967-73 IN TOTAL SO THEY COULDNT HAVE BEEN THAT UGLY..I THINK THEY ARE A SEXY LOOKING CAR ESPECIALLY THE FORMULA AND THE RIGHT COLOUR COMBOS….LETS HOPE THEY JUST BRING BACK THE FORMULA AND THE TRANS AM AND A BASE FIREBIRD…..NO ESPRITS OR YELLOW BIRDS OR BLUE BIRDS, YUK KEEP IT SIMPLE ..THAT GM GUY LUTZ OR WHATEVER SHOULD GIVE HIS HEAD A SHAKE, YOU CANT MAKE A CAMARO AND FORGET ABOUT THE FIREBIRD, OR TRY TO CHANGE PEOPLES MINDS WITH THE SUNFIRE AND CAVALIER AS A REPLACEMENT??MAYBE THEY NEED NEW BLOOD AT GM…CATCH UP GUYS…
I’ d buy an ’09’ Firebird if it looked like Kevin Morgan’s version. I also agree the that the 1971 and 1972 were the best of the past. The limited production of a 1972 white with blue stripes and a 455 would be the sweetest car to get my hands on.
And you just have to be curious of how a 2009 version would look based on a 1970-1973.
I NAVE A 1999 SAFIRE BLUE FIRBIRD WITH T-TOPS, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A 2002,OR NEWER WITH A SIX CYLINDER,THAT IS WHAT I HAVE NOW.THANKS,LINDA
I like it. Our pal KMorgan has some othersuff, particularly an early 70s design in black:

While I do hope the firebird returns, I just hope they kill that UGLY bird decal…that just screams white trash…
Still confused about this boost butotn we have moved into a new build and have 3 boost butotns, 2 for different areas needing heating (living and bedrooms) and one for hot water. A few questions.1. Is the boost butotn dearer in terms of energy consumption that using a timer switch.2. If I hit the heat boost butotn for an hour will that automatically heat up the water or do I have to hit the hot water boost as well? Our bill for 2 months after Christmas came to 270 Euro we nearly died! DO you know if the ESB nightsave is a good deal we do use drier and dishwasher a lot!
