One of Steve’s wishes was that if his death was filmed, that it be shown.

His family have agreed (so watch this space).

First thanks for all the comments.
The public memorial will be announced in a few days.

Also Terri Irwin (Steve’s wife of course) told the discovery channel 5 years ago that they should film steve at all cost (per his wishes). Steve has also said on US TV that his only fear of dying by an animal was that it wasn’t filmed and shown. This will likely be part of the debate on should the film be shown or not. I have heard privately that it was in his will as well.

I was personally not so keen but in light of the many comments (as here and in the public media by the likes of Germaine Greer ), saying that Steve had it coming to him, as he likely was scaring, torturing, or intimidating the ray somehow, it may be the only way to show folks the truth (though the coroners report will say based on the film evidence this was not the case.

Finally, when you comment it would be nice to know where you are from…

  4. The man loved what he did and wanted the world to see him doing what he loved. Yeah his death sucks but he knew he was at risk every time he was on film. He knew the risks but loved doing it more than he feard the risk. People loved watching him do things because we were all afraid of doing them ourselfes. I would love to see is final moments enjoying life to the last minute. I would love to live my life enjoying it to the last minute. RIP Steve Irwin. You’re a brave man!

  7. steve was nice i was not interested in watching educational channels about crocs or anything else until i saw steve in action and i think that all of his fan should see him one last time at least the last time he did what he dedicated his life to and as his fans and the people that he ancouraged to watch discovery channel and other wild life tv he made more interesting.R.I.P. in peace steve your the best

  9. There was some news footage here in Australia where the owner of the footage stated that it would never see the light of day. Not sure how that will figure in the future say 10 years down the track. But he sounded pretty sure that was and would be the case.

  18. I think it is wrong to show the video to the world. Who would want to see the gruseome end to Steve’s life? Critics like John Truthteller and others should be very careful what they say as karma is a very real thing. Let Steve rest in peace and may his family be richly blessed by God. His children are the ones we all should feel sorry for as a family without a parent is like a house without a roof. RIP Steve.

  21. Steve Irwin was a great man, however I would like to see his video footage of the stingray incident. I am interested how a gentle creature could have stung Steve in the chest? Perhaps he was just a little to hyperactive and ego could have played a part in this tragic event. I prefer not to speculate but see first hand how events truly unfolded. Death is not something for sickos either it is a natural event this will happen for all of us sometime or another and I welcome it.

  27. Steve was amazing. I watched him on tv one time, go into alligator infested waters, at night, in a small row boat. When he found the alligator he wanted, he jumped out of the boat onto the alligator, wrestled it to shore, tied it up, and dragged it into his boat. There was no one like him, and I doubt if anyone will ever equal him!

  30. In all due respect for Steve Irwin…no the video should not be shown. In the first place, why the debate? If there should be a decision, I think his immediate love ones and family should be the one who decides. It’s something personal, tragic and they deserve the privacy and respect..

  31. I think the video should be seen to show people how truly vunerable we are and that even the most experienced professionals can be taken from us in a heartbeat. Life is taken advantage of and if the video can keep even one person from taking an uncalculated risk Steve would be happy.

  39. The news of his death has stunned me and my family as much as when we heard about Lady Diana’s death.
    A lot of Morbidly curious people wanted to see the footage (if any) of the accident or have even seen her body on certain sites and I don’t recall THAT being HER wish but we still wanted to see it.
    Steve however WANTED to have his death filmed and shown. It should be honoured and like I said we don’t have to watch.
    Are we sick if we DID watch however?
    Myself personally would probably watch. One because of that sick morbid curiosity and two because it’s what he wanted from us.
    He was a spot on personality and you felt you knew him personally and we will so miss him. Honour his wish then go back onto the sites and vids of when he was alive, happy and doing the job he loved. THAT’S the way I’d really rather remember him by.

  41. hello everyone first and foremost i loved steve he was awesome he loved what he did and loved his family i think they should show it beacuse he would want it to be shown…….and if it was in his will hopefully they will show it. but i also understand why the wouldnt want to show it that is so awful to show something lke that expecally how much that guy was loved…….to me how i feel about his death is how i feel about losing my friend in the world trade center. i never met the guy but that was my dream that was my goal that i was gonna make come true in a few more years….. but supposenly they are gonna bury him in his zoo the austraila zoo which he owned so hopefully one day ill be able to go to his site that his grave will be at and pay my respects……becuase wht made him so famous was how much of a daredevil that guy was he was the best and noone wilever come as close as him R.I.P I LOVE YOU

He was an inspiration to all and inspired many people to help out the animals in the world. Everyone who was anyone knew him and loved him even just a piece. He will be deeply missed but i would like to say to his family: Go strong. He wants you guys to be happy and not to grieve of his death, but to celebrate his life and all of the wonderful memories that came along with him! he’s always with you no matter where you go!

  50. terri my heart goes out to you and steves family, you could truly see the love he had for you and his family. remember that always, you could see how his face lit up when he talk about you and your two wonderful children.your husband lived fast and hard and managed to fit ten life times of life into one and made it the best life anyone could have possibly asked for. this will not be an easy time for you and yours but try to remember all the laughs, the jokes and how that man of yours made such a lasting impression to so many children and adults.he left this world doing what he loved he gave of himself every second of every day, just to get the message out that our worlds creatures need help now, not tomorow not next week but now while there are still animals to help. now you have a job to continue on with and i have now dought in my mind that you have the same disire as that wonderful man you married. his life was a true gift to people around the world and for that we thank you and will keep you in our prayers.

  67. This was such a sad loss. Most people will have heard of Steve Irwin at some point, and most will either think he was a genuis or a mad man. Mr. Irwin was a professional. Like everybody who works, he would have been aware of the potential danger involved. Some people may comment that, with a wife and two children, he should have taken a step back from his job. But, we all know the dangers of getting in a car, yet we [all] do it every day. What Mr. Irwin did was as natural to him as breathing air is to us, and I believe this is why he carried on until the bitter end – for him, there was no difference between his job and his family (indeed, there is video footage of Mr. Irwin crying over the death of a Croc, which he said he loved like he loved his wife).

    I don’t know the personal details of Mr. Irwin’s will, but if he truly wanted his death to be shown then this should end all argument. No matter what we think – wether we believe it is morally right or wrong to show his death – the last action we can take to honour his memory is fulfil his last request.

    I believe Steve Irwin was a real insipration to everybody in some way. We will miss you so much.
